Early morning or late evening is the best time to water approximately 25-30 minutes of watering, ideally done twice a week.
The U.S. Drought Monitor’s latest data set released shows San Antonio area continues to sit in an area plagued by extreme drought. South Texas — along with much of the state — has been hard-pressed to see any meaningful rainfall since the start of 2026.
• Responsibility & Regulation: Private wells do not have state or federal monitoring requirements; safety is entirely the owner’s responsibility.
• Water Testing: Recommend testing for coliform bacteria, nitrates, and arsenic at least every 6-12 months, and immediately after heavy rains or flooding.
• Well Maintenance & Records: Keep detailed records of the well’s depth, casing, and pump.
• Contamination Risks: Be aware of potential risks from nearby septic systems, livestock, or agricultural runoff.

• Contamination Notice: As of September 1, 2025, TCEQ is required to notify residents within one mile of a groundwater contamination site.
